This dataset is maintained by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and reports on the geographic distribution of COVID-19 cases worldwide. This data includes COVID-19 reported cases and deaths broken out by country. This dataset includes global data that ECDC obtains from multiple sources, such as websites of ministries and public health institutes. Where no data is available from official national sources, data from other sources is used to gather additional information. The data are sourced by a team of epidemiologists who screen relevant sources to collect the latest figures. The data screening follows ECDC’s standard epidemic intelligence process for which every single data entry is validated and documented. As of the 17 December 2020, ECDC collects and publishes these data on a weekly bases. Data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the preceding week and published on Thursdays. For EU/EEA countries population denominators are sourced from Eurostat and for the rest of the countries from Word bank.
